第四个是肥肠。很多人觉得肥肠吓人，因为肥肠是猪的肠子。人们会觉得，肥肠太脏了！其实，人们在做肥肠以前，会把肥肠洗得干干净净，也没有奇怪的味道。但是，肥肠不是健康的食物，因为有很多脂肪。

However, some people—often foreigners—say that certain Chinese dishes are a bit scary. Scary means something that makes people feel afraid. So, what are these so-called “scary” Chinese dishes? The first dish is chicken feet. Chicken feet are very popular in China. You might see them in snack shops or restaurants. Chicken feet are a common xiàjiǔ cài (a dish that goes well with alcohol). People often enjoy eating chicken feet while drinking. Spicy chicken feet, especially ones that are sour and spicy, are particularly popular.
The second dish is century eggs. This is perhaps one of the foods many people are afraid to try. Century eggs look dark and black, and some people find their taste strange. However, in China, people often use century eggs to make cold dishes. Most Chinese dishes are hot, but there are also many types of cold dishes. One famous cold dish is pídàn dòufu (century egg with tofu). The black century eggs and white tofu make a great visual combination, and they taste fantastic together.
The third is duck blood and pig blood. Many people find the idea of eating animal blood strange and don’t dare to try it. However, in China, people often enjoy duck blood in hotpot. Sometimes, they also eat stir-fried pig blood. Duck blood and pig blood are rich in iron, so people consider them healthy foods.
The fourth dish is pork intestines. Many people find pork intestines scary because they are, well, pig intestines. Some assume they must be dirty. In reality, before cooking, pork intestines are thoroughly cleaned, so they don’t have any strange smell or taste. However, pork intestines aren’t the healthiest food because they contain a lot of fat.

That’s why people started eating chicken feet, duck blood, pork intestines, and other parts.
