MaoMi Chinese+!

Hello everyone! Welcome back to MaoMi Chinese+!

Recently, videos about traveling in China have been particularly popular. Many people come to China for travel, shoot some videos, and post them on TikTok. Did you know that you may not need a visa to come and travel in China? China offers a 144-hour visa-free transit, which means that as long as people transit through China, they can stay in China for up to 144 hours, which is six days. Visa-free means you don’t need a visa. So, how do you get this visa-free transit? How should you spend these 144 hours? Let’s chat about it today!

Firstly, you need to check if you can apply for the 144-hour visa-free transit. People from 54 countries can apply for this transit. Many people travel in Asia, perhaps visiting China first, then going to Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and so on. In this way, they can apply for the 144-hour visa-free transit. You can enter China through 20 cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and so on. “Entering” means arriving in a country. However, you can only stay and travel in these specific places. For example, if you enter through Beijing, you can only travel in Beijing and nearby Tianjin and Hebei. If you enter through Chengdu, you can only travel in Chengdu and nearby cities. So if you want to travel in Asia, especially if you want to visit several Asian countries and find applying for a Chinese visa troublesome, you can try the 144-hour visa-free transit. For example, if you are American, you can depart from the United States, travel in China for six days, and then go to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and so on.

With this 144-hour visa-free transit, where in China can you travel? If you like history and historic sites, I think you can go to Beijing, Nanjing, or Xi’an. These three cities have many historic sites. Beijing is China’s current capital and has the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and more. Nanjing and Xi’an were historical capitals of China and also have many historic sites.

If you want to experience city life in China, you can go to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and so on. These are China’s most developed cities with very convenient transportation. If you love animals, especially giant pandas, you can go to Chengdu, Sichuan, and other cities in Sichuan. Chengdu in Sichuan has the Giant Panda Base with many adorable pandas. Sichuan also has a city called Leshan, where you can find a Giant Buddha statue, 71 meters tall and over a thousand years old. Sichuan cuisine is also famous. If you like spicy food, hotpot, and a relaxed lifestyle, you must visit Sichuan. Sichuan is also very popular on TikTok. In Tuesday’s MaoMi Chinese+, I will introduce Sichuan to everyone in detail. Sichuan has many beautiful landscapes and lots of delicious and fun places to visit. If you’re interested, feel free to join MaoMi Chinese+.

If you love seafood and the sea, you can go to coastal cities like Xiamen, Dalian, Qingdao, and so on. If you love beer, you must try Qingdao beer, which is China’s most famous beer!

Some people say, 144 hours, only six days, is way too short! If you want to stay longer in China, what can you do? There are two ways. The first way is to return to China from another country. For example, you can depart from the UK, come to China, stay for six days, then go to Japan, return to China, and finally go back to the UK. The second way is to apply for a Chinese tourist visa. The good news is, from March 14, 2024, to December 31, 2025, if you are from these countries, you can visit China visa-free for 15 days. These countries include: Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg.

Are you planning to travel to China? What else would you like to know about traveling to China? Feel free to leave us a comment, and I will answer your questions! In Tuesday’s MaoMi Chinese+, I will also introduce Sichuan to our members. There sceneries are amazing and food is delicious. If you are interested, you are very welcome to join MaoMi Chinese+
