Eating soil

Eating soil!

Story Time

Eating Soil

December really is a month that is hard on our wallets. In China, there is a “Double 12” (12.12) shopping festival every year, when all kinds of shops offer crazy discounts and no one can stop buying. In western countries, Christmas is in December, and everyone is also busy buying presents for their families and friends, and their wallets also “bleed a lot” (spend lots of money).
I recently also spent a lot of money due to Christmas. I am planning to give presents to my family and friends. I just got paid a few days ago, and now half of it has already been spent. I still need to pay for rent and utility bills. It seems like I will have to “eat soil” again this month!

However, “eating soil” doesn’t mean that I am really going to dig out the soil in the ground to eat. This is an exaggerated Chinese internet term, meaning that they are too poor to afford to buy any food, and therefore they can only “eat soil”.

What have you bought recently? I hope you won’t be like me - so poor that I can only “eat soil”!
